Climbing and Urban Adventure Camp

Sometimes we feel like adventure requires a long journey or novel destination, when really, adventure is more about perspective than place. At Scrapyard, we think adventure can be closer than you imagine.

Our full day program starts with our youth campers spending the morning advancing their climbing through small group instruction, climbing games, and coach mentorship. With new and younger climbers, instruction will focus on fun, confidence, trust, and goal setting. With intermediate and older climbers, instruction will focus on more advanced techniques and building upon prior knowledge and confidence.

Campers will then break for lunch, either brought by the camper or sourced locally. Then, campers will spend the afternoon gaining a new perspective of historic downtown Holland through different, daily adventures.

The goal of this day camp is to offer participants opportunities to experience downtown Holland in new ways through its art, food, biking, paddling, wildlife, and of course rock climbing.

Half Day Climbing Camps

Our half day climbing camps feature the same great instruction, games, and coaching as our full-day camps minus the afternoon of urban adventures. This is a great option for those seeking a smaller time commitment or those focused solely on progressing their climbing.

**Both camps are offered for students 3-5th grade and 6-8th grade.**

Urban Adventures are being finalized and may include:

  • An art workshop with Cultureworks
  • A bike and bites tour of some of downtown’s most historic landmarks and tastiest treats
  • Exploring the local plants and wildlife of nearby natural areas with a local naturalist
  • Kayaking and water safety on the Macatawa River

*While adventures are still being finalized. 6-8th grade camp may involve different drop off/pick-up points to accommodate more fun and epic adventures! More details coming soon.

Team Scrapyard

For kids ready to take rock climbing to the next level

Team Scrapyard is for climbers that have learned the basic skills and want to challenge themselves and take rock climbing to new heights. This team will fine-tune skills they have acquired in the past and will learn more advanced technical movements, strength workouts, climbing exercises, and goal setting.

Team Scrapyard Comp Team practices twice per week and will attend 2-3 regional qualifying competitions. Qualifying athletes may then attend regional and divisional championships if they progress. Youth interested in Team Scrapyard will participate in a trial night that will resemble a typical team session. These sessions will allow coaches to evaluate climbers’ climbing ability as well as work ethic & motivation, team-centeredness, maturity, and coachability.

Development Team is for those just testing the waters on competitive climbing. It will focus on exploring movement and technique and preliminary training ideas. Dev team meets once a week from September through April.
