Welcome Desk Staff (Part Time)
Help us welcome climbers and guests, answer the phone, teach new climbers, and keep the gym clean. You’ll enjoy teaching introductory climbing lessons including basic climbing technique, belay methods, gym safety, knot tying, and more. What does the job look like:
- Balancing day-to-day customer service and facility tasks as directed by gym management
- Creating welcoming and comfortable spaces for our members and guests
- Getting to know members and guests as part of growing our community
- Stepping in and helping other staff when they need an extra hand
- Helping members and guests with gear selection in our retail shop
- Answering any questions that come up throughout the day and reaching out to the Operations Manager when unable to do so on your own
- Providing feedback to leadership team to improve processes and bring new ideas to the table
- Helping lead group programs when scheduled
- Performing basic sales and computer software operations
- Conducting thorough facility orientations for first time guests
- Delivering belay and lead tests as necessary
- Handling day-to-day customer concerns and directing higher level concerns to leadership team
- Maintaining and overseeing safe practices in the facility and confidently communicating with members and guests when safe practices are not being met
- Representing Scrapyard values and making a genuine effort to create connections that support members, guests, and peers
What We’re Looking For
- Applicants must be 18 or older
- Flexible work schedules (10-15 hours available per week)
- Availability to work evenings and weekends consistently is required
- Prior roped climbing experience (indoor or out) is preferred
- Customer service or teaching experience is preferred
- Experience with sport lead climbing is a plus
- Have a genuine interest in other people’s experiences
- Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to tie knots and move across uneven surfaces and stairways
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Lover of learning and a deep interest in improving things for those around them
- Friendly, enthusiastic attitude; ability to exhibit warmth, competence and empathy
- Tech savvy enough to use and apply a wide variety of applications including, but not limited to, Approach, Google Drive, Gmail, When I Work, and Discord
- Uphold Scrapyard values and use our mission statement to guide decisions
